Symptom free living?
After years of stress and fear of the unknown I finally got my IBS diagnosis after continuously advocating for my health and knowing my symptoms were not normal. Little did I know that this was only the beginning of my IBS journey…
It is not uncommon to see newly diagnosed IBS patients handed a list of foods to cut out without support or any follow up. Not only is this frustrating as a patient but as a dietitian it pains me to see this for many reasons:
Trigger foods are personalised and you don’t need to cut out all FODMAPs
A low FODMAPs diet is not a long term diet
There is more to your symptoms and IBS than nutrition alone.
IBS is a complicated, multifactorial condition that can be debilitating at times. As a dietitian that has IBS it is so rewarding when my clients can experience ‘normal’, simple things again. If you are tired of the uncertainty of your IBS, triggers, FODMAPs and all things gut nutrition read below to hear more about my approach and service.

I wish I could improve your symptoms overnight, unfortunately, IBS is a stubborn condition and demands care, patience and respect.
With every IBS client, I take them through first line treatments targeted at reducing symptoms before considering any diagnostic elimination diets, this alone can take two weeks. If we do an elimination diet, doing it correctly requires completing three main components; each of which take at least 3 weeks to complete.
Approaching IBS systematically guided by evidence-based standards is crucial to see symptom improvements.

The protocol I employ ensures symptom improvement and success in 75% of IBS sufferers. If my standard protocol doesn’t work and you fall into the 25% that are non-responding we can try alternative treatments. If we still are unable to succeed with nutrition alone we can talk through other options to improve symptoms as a last resort.
